Menstrual Hygiene Awareness & Nutrition Support Program

At PEAS Trust, we are dedicated to improving the lives of the Irular Tribes in the central part of Tamil Nadu. The Irulas, traditionally known for their skills in snake and rat-catching as well as honey collection, also work as laborers in the fields during sowing and harvesting seasons or in rice mills. As a Dravidian ethnic group, the Irulas have settled in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka.

The Communities We Serve: In the villages of Mahilampaadi, Ananthanur, Pullampaadi, Kollumedu, and Pichandar Koil, we work with:

At PEAS Trust, we are dedicated to improving the lives of the Irular Tribes in the central part of Tamil Nadu. The Challenges:

The Irular community faces significant challenges:

Education: Due to illiteracy and frequent migration in search of work, parents struggle to keep their children in school.
Living Conditions: They live below the poverty line in temporary makeshift huts and lack land ownership.
Health: Poor nutrition and inadequate meals at home lead to stunted growth among adults and children.

Our Support Initiatives:

PEAS Trust has been committed to supporting the Irular tribes through various initiatives, including providing free notebooks and other educational materials.

Menstrual Hygiene and Wellness Kit Distribution Program

Our latest initiative, the “Menstrual Hygiene and Wellness Kit Distribution Program,” aims to address critical health and hygiene needs. Each kit contains:
a) Sanitary Pads & Tissue Rolls: To ensure menstrual hygiene
b) Dates & Eggs: To provide essential nutrition
c) Hair Oil, Shampoo, Talcum Powder: For personal grooming

This project will support all school-going girls from the Irular tribes in the Trichy district, Tamil Nadu, India.

Awareness Sessions

In addition to providing kits, we will conduct awareness sessions led by a gynecologist and a nutritionist. These sessions will educate schoolgirls and their parents on:
– The importance of menstrual hygiene
– Nutritious eating habits
– Personal grooming practices

By promoting healthy food habits and personal hygiene, we aim to boost the confidence of these young girls, ensuring they have a positive school experience.

Join Us in Making a Difference

Your support can help us expand our reach and provide essential health and nutrition support to more girls in the Irular communities. Together, we can empower these young girls to lead healthier and more confident lives.
